Herd Health Management Program
calf

A successful cattle program requires good management practices. Beyond providing quality forage, an adequate water supply, mineral supplements and generally “keeping an eye on things”, is the practice of herd health management. All cattle are vaccinated on a timely schedule.

Our bulls, cows and heifers receive annual vaccinations against:

  • Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis – IBR
  • Bovine Virus Diarrhea – BVD
  • Parainfluenza 3 – PI 3
  • Histophilus - formally known as Haemophilis
  • Leptospirosis – Lepto
  • Campylobacteriosis – formally known as Vibriosis or Vibrio
  • Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus - BRSV

Heifers are also vaccinated against Brucellosis, or Bangs disease.

Our calves receive their first round of vaccinations two weeks prior to weaning with follow-up vaccinations four weeks later. Calves are vaccinated for:

  • Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis – IBR
  • Bovine Virus Diarrhea – BVD
  • Parainfluenza 3 – PI 3
  • Histophilus - formally known as Haemophilis
  • Clostridium chauvoei – Black leg
  • Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus – BRSV
  • Mannheimia - formally known as Pasteurella

A mix of salt, kelp meal, diatomaceous earth, garlic powder and vinegar is offered, along with a standard mineral mix, for parasite prevention.  Neem oil or Ecto-phyte is used for external parasites.
